Are you a Swedish traveler in the USA? We recommend that all temporary visitors from Sweden in the United States consider the possibility of returning to Sweden with some urgency. Closed to visitors due coronavirus outbreak

In order to ensure the health and safety of our community, the Consulate General of Sweden in New York will be closed to visitors as of March 23 until May 1, 2020. All appointments, including passport appointments, scheduled between March 23 and May 1, are cancelled. Those who have made an appointment during this time period have been contacted directly. Appointments scheduled on, or after, May 4, 2020, are currently not affected. Any updates regarding our opening hours will be posted on our website and communicated directly to those effected. Please note that if your passport is already expired when applying for a new one, the only additional document necessary is another form of valid photo-ID (Swedish or American). For urgent needs for temporary emergency passports, or if you are in an emergency situation and need urgent assistance, please email us or call -, tel 212-583-2560. As of April 7, our phone hours will be 10am - 1 pm, Monday - Friday.

Temporary Travel Ban and limited possi­bi­li­ties of obtai­ning a visa to Sweden

On 18 March, the Government decided to temporarily stop non-essential travel to Sweden to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and reduce the spread of the virus. The decision took effect on 19 March and will initially apply for 30 days. This is an exceptional measure that will not apply for longer than necessary. Due to the coronavirus and the temporary entry ban to Sweden, the Swedish Migration Agency has decided that the majority of visa applications will be rejected. This applies if you wish to visit Sweden and are a citizen of a country outside the EU.

Advisal against all international travel

Due to the widespread outbreak of the coronavirus and the rapidly changing and uncertain situation that exists for travelers, the Swedish Ministry of Foreign Affairs has extended its decision to advise against all non-essential international travel until June 15, 2020.
