Appointments are necessary for certain services at the Embassy in Washington DC and at the Consulate General in New York and San Francisco, but there are distinct differences - see below.
Embassy in Washington DC
Appointments are required to renew/apply for passports or for migration/visa related matters. All other services are normally handled during regular opening hours, without scheduling appointments.
Consulate General in New York and San Francisco
Any visitor to the Consulate General must book an appointment.
