Sweden and South Africa enjoy a strong relationship and have a long history of bilateral collaboration. The Swedish Government promotes South African-Swedish exchanges through a range of activities, including seminars, events and social media campaigns. The overall tasks of the Embassy include public diplomacy, supporting business and trade, regional development cooperation as well as consular services. The Embassy hasEmbassy has 33 employees.The Section för Operational Support is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Embassy, including finance, HR, property, security, and reception services. The position as Receptionist is a part-time role (80%), suited for someone who is professional, service-minded, and able to take initiative, with a strong interest in administration and in creating a welcoming environment for visitors and colleagues.Responsibilities will include:•Acting as the first point of contact for visitors, guests, and callers to the Embassy.•Managing the Embassy’s switchboard and directing calls appropriately.•Handling incoming and outgoing correspondence, including mail and courier services.•Maintaining the reception area and ensuring it reflects the Embassy’s values of professionalism and openness.•Providing administrative support to the Section for Operational Support and other Embassy sections as needed.•Assisting with visitor access control and liaising with security staff.Requirements•Minimum of a high school diploma (matric or equivalent).•Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with a professional and welcoming manner.•At least three years of work experience in a similar role (reception, front office, or administrative support).•Fluency in spoken and written English; knowledge of Swedish is an advantage.•Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.•Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).•Ability to multitask and work independently, while also being part of, and contributing to, a team.•The applicant needs to be a South African citizen or have a valid transferable work permit for South Africa.•Applicants must have a clean criminal record.•Security clearance from relevant Swedish authorities will have to be obtained based on a South African police clearance.•The successful applicant embraces the Embassy’s core values of equality and openness and enjoys the idea of representing Sweden to peers and visitors.Merits•Further education or training in administration, communications, or a related field.•Previous work experience from an Embassy, NGO, or international company.•Knowledge of additional languages.How to applyAn application including a motivational letter of no longer than one page and a CV no longer than two pages should be sent to the Embassy at recruitment.pretoria@gov.se no later than 7 December 2025.
