Innovate like a Swede - for making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable in Vietnam.
Do you have an innovative and sustainable solution to one of the many
challenges faced by Vietnam today? Innovate like a Swede will give you a great
opportunity to present your innovative skills to representatives from Swedish
companies and provide you with a valuable experience that will be useful in
your future career.
Innovate like a Swede is an annual innovation contest for Vietnamese students focusing on one of the sustainable development goals (SDGs) from the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, agreed by all the member states of the United Nations. The main purpose of the contest is to encourage creativity and to find innovative solutions for challenges faced in a local context. The focus SDG for this year’s contest is goal no 11: Sustainable cities and communities - Make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable.
The contest is organized by the Embassy of Sweden, Swedish companies and
Uppsala University, with the support of Ministry of Education and Training,
Ministry of Science and Technology and Ministry of Natural Resources and
Environment.
The contest is launched on 23 August in Hanoi and the deadline for submission is 28 October 2018. The participants will form teams of two and their contribution will be assessed based on whether the entries are innovative, creative, feasible, sustainable and commercially viable, as well as on what kind of lasting impact they will have. The jury consists of representatives from sponsoring companies, Uppsala University and Embassy of Sweden.
The first prize is a trip to Sweden and a visit to a couple of Swedish companies’ headquarters and Uppsala University. The runner ups will be given internship opportunities at Swedish companies in Vietnam.

The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s) are a key priority for the
Swedish government as well as one of the major tasks for the world as a whole. This contest aims to inspire students in Vietnam to use innovation as a means to reaching an SDG in a Vietnamese context.

Yes, as long as your teammate is a student at university level in Vietnam.

Your idea/proposal can be for a for-profit business or a non-profit project that helps with social issues relating to SDG 11.
Thus, it is not required to be for-profit business.
No, it is not required but if you want to include calculations it is perfectly fine. The focus should be on creativity, feasibility and innovation.
Yes, if it is applicable and relevant to this competition.
Yes, teams of two is mandatory.
It is always good to bounce ideas with each other and it will be more fun to travel together to Sweden.
