Update: Booking passport appointments manually

29 Apr 2024

Since 26 February, the Embassy has been conducting a trial of booking passport appointments by e-mail to a dedicated e-mail address. There are now more people who have sent such an e-mail than the number of available passport appointments until August. Therefore, we need to suspend the manual booking system until further notice.

Since 26 February, the Embassy has been conducting a trial of manually booking passport appointments by e-mail. This procedure will continue, however, the number of emails that we have received greatly exceeds the number of passport appointments we have available until October.

Currently, the Embassy is booking appointments for August. After this, the appointments for September and October will be booked according to the requests that we have already received per email. If you have a valid passport and an urgent need of a new passport before November, we recommend that you apply for a passport appointment in Sweden. You can collect the new travel document in London for a fee of SEK 200 (currently £16).

If you have been given an appointment but change your mind, you will be doing other passport applicants a favour if you cancel the appointment so that we can book your appointment for someone else instead. Write "Cancellation" in the subject line.

Secure your renewed passport by making a passport appointment in Sweden

Going forward, the Embassy will not be able to accept all applications for passports from Swedish citizens in the UK who wish to apply for a passport or national ID card in London. The Embassy's capacity, with our current resources, is around 5,000 passports per year. We estimate that there may be 120 000-150 000 Swedish citizens living in the UK.

Renewing your passport or national ID card with the Police in Sweden will continue to be the quickest way. As a rule, it should be possible to find an upcoming passport appointment at the Police’ passport offices all over Sweden. If you do not have a bank ID, a relative/friend can book an appointment for you with their bank ID at www.polisen.se.

More information about passports is available on the Police website: www.polisen.se

Remember that if you apply for a passport or national ID card with the police in Sweden, you can then collect your new passport or ID card from the embassy in London for a fee (200 SEK, or £16).

If your passport has expired, you can apply for a provisional passport at the Embassy in London for a single journey to Sweden. For more information, see the embassy's website: Provisional passport (emergency passport) - Sweden Abroad

Manual booking of passport appointments

The Embassy will continue to book passport appointments in order of when we received the booking email.

In order to create capacity to receive as many applications as possible, requests for passport appointments will be answered via automated responses.

Will the Embassy continue to book appointments manually?

The Embassy plans to book appointments manually until a new IT-based booking site is available.

The Embassy will regularly provide more information on this website.
