Manual booking of passport appointments (trial) - update

24 Apr 2024

Since 26 February, the Embassy has been conducting a trial of booking passport appointments by e-mail to a dedicated e-mail address. There are now more people who have sent such an e-mail than the number of available passport appointments until August. Therefore, we need to suspend the manual booking system until further notice.

The Embassy is now booking appointments for July. After that, the appointments for August and September will be booked for the emails already received. If you have a valid passport and an urgent need for a new passport before September, you are recommended to apply for a passport in Sweden.

Securing a renewed passport by applying for a passport in Sweden

In the future, the Embassy will not be able to assist all Swedish citizens in the UK who wish to apply for a passport or national ID card in London. The Embassy has a capacity to produce around 5,000 passports per year. Based on the number of Swedish citizens in the UK, the potential demand could be up to 25,000 passports per year. Renewing your passport or national ID card through the Police in Sweden will continue to be the quickest way to receive a new passport. Normally, it should be possible to find a passport appointment at a Police Station in Sweden in the near future. If you do not have the bank ID application, a relative/friend can book an appointment for you using their bank ID at www.polisen.se. More information about passports is available on the website of the Swedish Police: www.polisen.se

Don't forget that if you apply for a passport or national ID card with the police in Sweden, you can then collect your new passport or ID card from the Embassy in London for a fee (200 SEK, or £16 in the local currency).

If your passport has expired, you can apply for a provisional passport at the Embassy in London for a single journey to Sweden. For more information, see the Embassy's website: Provisoriskt pass (nödpass) - Sweden Abroad

Manual booking of Passport Appointments

If you have previously sent an email to the specific email address with all the requested information and you have not yet been offered an appointment, you will remain in the queue for the appointments we are scheduling for May, June, July and August, in accordance with the rules of priority. Therefore, you do not need to send a new e-mail. However, we expect that there are more people waiting in the queue than the number of slots.

The Embassy will provide more information on its website before September.
