Open position as Head of Communication and Sustainability

The Consulate General of Sweden in New York is looking for its new Head of Communication and Sustainability, with a tentative start date of August 26, 2024. It is a full-time permanent position with an initial trial period of six months. The deadline to apply is May 19, 2024.

The Head of Communication and Sustainability leads the Consulate’s communications, press outreach and strategy across the Consulate’s region (New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and New England). This includes overall responsibility for the Consulate’s external strategic communication through its website, social media channels and newsletters.

The position also involves responsibility for parts of the sustainability portfolio, with an emphasis on promoting a green and sustainable Sweden. This includes independently arranging seminars and events, organising visits for incoming delegations and act as a point of contact for sustainability issues for both Swedish and American actors.

Our ideal candidate has in-depth experience of communication and an interest in sustainable development. You should be initiative-driven, forward-thinking, flexible, and socially adept, with excellent judgment, and an ability to develop professional relationships. You should also be analytical and curious, with a sense of purpose and public service, and be able to work efficiently in an occasionally high-paced environment. You should be able to independently manage result-driven processes, including budget planning. The position requires physical presence in the office and remote work is only permitted on an ad hoc basis.

Competences

  • Experience of strategic communication and social media, with an excellent stylistic ability to communicate in English.
  • Good knowledge about the US, in particular the media and communication landscape in New York and northeast US.
  • Experience from the sustainability field
  • Knowledge about Sweden. Proficiency in Swedish is an advantage.

Please note that the position requires permission to work in the U.S. (Employment Authorization Document, green card, or U.S. citizenship). The Consulate General cannot assist with work permits and only applications from people with work permits are considered. The salary range for the position is $74,400-88,800 per year.
