Important information from the Embassy's Migration Department

17 Mar 2022

The Embassy's migration department continues to work as usual; our reception is open Monday-Friday 09.00-11.00 and we have extended our telephone hours to Monday-Friday 14.00-15.00.

You do not need to make an appointment to leave biometrics but can come at any time during opening hours of Migration department. At present, you cannot have your residence permit card delivered to another Swedish Embassy/Consulate General. We can send your residence permit card back to the Swedish Migration Agency where someone with a power of attorney picks it up for you. However, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that it is not possible to send, for example, DHL shipments to Russia, and you need the card to enter Sweden.

If you have been granted a residence permit, the embassy cannot grant you a visa to enter Sweden and leave biometrics there.

Residence permit cards continue to be delivered to the Embassy in Moscow and we currently see no longer delay. The delivery time is currently about 3 weeks (after the Swedish Migration Agency's decision, if biometrics has already been provided). Should delivery times change, we will publish it on our website.  It is possible to provide biometrics in your case before the Swedish Migration Agency has made a decision. However, in this case, we cannot say where the residence permit card will be sent if you will be granted a permit.

We continue to conduct interviews for residence permits and it is also possible to make an appointment for an interview. The Embassy has not received any other instructions from the Swedish Migration Agency. Should we receive other information, we will contact you and publish it on our website. Therefore, you do not need to cancel your appointment or change it.  This also applies to residents of Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.

It is still possible to apply for a Schengen visa to temporarily visit Sweden. You apply for a visa through one of VFS Global's application centers. We will accept your application at the Embassy only in exceptional cases. We would like to stress that we cannot grant a visa to leave the country as a visa applicant must have the intention to return to his or her home country before the visa expires. The Embassy cannot grant visas on a humanitarian basis.

For those who apply for a business visa, hold a diplomatic passport or are about to make an official visit to Sweden, the requirements have changed. You need to pay an application fee of 80 EUR and submit more supporting documents to your application. The Embassy/VFS Global can provide more information about this.
