Swedish Development Cooperation: Non-acceptance of Corruption

Sweden is a long-term development partner with Liberia and national ownership and leadership is key in all support. Swedish development cooperation never accepts any form of corruption, including giving and receiving bribes.

The Swedish development cooperation in Liberia supports areas such as: democracy, human rights, gender equality and the rule of law; peaceful and inclusive societies; inclusive economic growth and environment, climate change, and the use of natural resources. As a development cooperation partner in Liberia, Sweden is supporting national ownership and leadership and is aligning all its work to the National Pro-poor agenda for Prosperity and Development. The Swedish development cooperation includes support to both government and civil society actors for sustainable results and long-term development in Liberia. Corruption is a serious hindrance to such development.

Sweden never accepts any form of corruption, including bribes. In addition, the approach to corruption also instructs employers and partners to always prevent, always inform and always act. All Swedish-funded projects and programmes are regularly audited and special audits can be conducted in cases where corruption is suspected. Information about all Swedish aid is presented at www.openaid.se and any suspicions of corruption, irregularities and other wrongdoings can be reported to www.Sida.se.

Sweden and Liberia enjoy 65 years of excellent bilateral relations and Sweden joins hands with all Liberians in commemorating the Accra Peace Agreement and celebrating 20 years of peace and stability. Despite challenges, Liberia has made impressive gains and Sweden is a steadfast development cooperation partner and will continue supporting Liberia for sustainable peace, development and prosperity.
