Swedish citizens who need to renew their passport should plan a trip to Sweden in good time. It is cheaper to apply for a passport in Sweden than at an embassy and it usually only takes a few working days before the passport can be picked up.
Please note that you need to book an appointment with the Police. Read more on the Police website.
You can also apply for a passport at the Swedish Embassy in Abuja. Always contact the embassy to make an appointment before you travel to the embassy.
Emergency passports issued by the Embassy in Monrovia are in A4 format and are issued for a single trip to Sweden but can in some cases be issued for a specific trip to another country and return. The trip should be imminent.
The temporary passport has a validity period depending on the length of the trip and a maximum of 7 months. You should state the length of the trip and show a flight ticket or booking when applying for an emergency passport.
You must check for yourself whether the country you are going to/transit via accepts a Swedish emergency passport in A4 format. The easiest way to get the information is to contact the respective embassy or travel agency.
The fee for the temporary passport is 1800 SEK, which is paid in cash in USD at the time of application. Monthley rate is displayed at the Embassy.
Please call or send an email to the Embassy to make an appointment when applying for an emergency passport.
