The Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo represents Sweden in Japan. The main tasks are to represent and further Swedish interests in Japan, promote good relations between Sweden and Japan and a modern image of Sweden in Japan. We report to the Swedish government offices on a broad range of issues and conduct dialogues with Japanese government authorities, business and civil society. We provide consular services to the public. The Embassy has around 25 staff members.
Main duties and responsibilities
The Embassy is looking for a new colleague, an experiensed team-player who can manage and develop the Embassy’s strategic communication and story-telling on- and off line, who can build and maintain a network among media, journalists and influencers in Japan, who can link current affairs to the need for communication, frame Swedish messages for a Japanese audience, and who can also participate in arranging public Embassy events.
Tasks will include:
· Lead, develop and handle the Embassy’s communication through social and traditional media
· Handle the Embassy’s website and social media accounts, building a consistent and effective presence on-line
· Analyse the media landscape and propose communication policy for the Embassy
· Keep track on news/trends which are developing in the media-landscape which are of interest for the Embassy
· Develop and keep contact with local and international media and journalists based in Japan and oversee the Embassy’s presence in Japanese media.
· Assist in the organisation of high-level visits from Sweden to Japan
· Support Embassy events and incoming visits, not least from a coms perspective.
The position is a full-time appointment, with a 6 months’ probation period. Starting date as soon as possible.
Your skills and profile
· Education and experience in the field of strategic communication
· Proven experience in policy work, including strong analytical skills
· Excellent written and spoken communication skills, including fluent English and Japanese
· Ability to take initiative, good judgement, organisational skills, teamwork and networking skills. Ability to prioritise and to work under stressful conditions· Good knowledge of the Japanese society, economic, cultural and governmental system and a broad range of contacts, especially within the media landscape.
· Flexibility and willingness to take on a variety of tasks as per the needs of the Embassy
· Experience and/or knowledge of Sweden and/or Swedish is meriting, but not a requirement
