Study + Work in Sweden in Fukuoka

The Embassy of Sweden in Tokyo will hold the Study + Work in Sweden for the first time in Kyushu in collaboration with Kyushu University.

A Swedish embassy staff member will explain the process of studying in Sweden. From Sweden, Lund University will participate. Alumni will talk about their experiences. The Embassy will be distributing a guide to studying in Sweden, materials from Swedish universities, a Swedish career guide, scholarship information, and more! We look forward to your participation in this unique and valuable opportunity.

Target audience: Those who have studied at a university in Sweden, those who are thinking of studying in Sweden, those who want to work in Sweden, and university staff. Junior high and high school students are also welcome!

・Ms. Yuka Yamamoto

Currently enrolled in the School of Interdisciplinary Studies at Kyushu University. From August 2024 to June 2025, she studied as an exchange student at Stockholm University. She studied a wide range of subjects, including changes in national identity due to the increase in immigrants, Sweden's equal education system, and welfare systems. She is currently researching the expansion of safety nets in Japanese society.

・Ms. Mana Motooka
Currently enrolled in the Department of Educational Psychology, Faculty of Education, Kyushu University. From August 2023 to June 2024, she studied at Uppsala University as an inter-university exchange student for 10 months. She  focused on the Swedish education system and special needs education, and visit local high schools and special needs schools to interview teachers, students, special needs and psychological professionals. She also volunteered at a Japanese supplementary school in Stockholm and participate in the Uppsala Kyudo Club. After returning to Japan, she deepens her understanding of developmental disorders and the working conditions of psychological professionals in Japan at Kyushu University. She is currently conducting research on the impact of the environment on individuals from a psychological perspective.

・Mr. Shinobu Utsumi
A third-year doctoral student at Kyushu University. He specializes in applied mathematical science and social physics. He studied at the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) in Sweden from 2022 to 2023, where he was involved in an experimental research project at the Nanostructure Physics Lab. After returning to Japan, he continues to participate in local programs in Sweden (Research & Innovation Week 2023, Global Challenges Winter School 2024) through the Japan-Sweden academic collaboration consortium "MIRAI". Influenced by a designer he met while studying in Sweden, he started bonsai after returning to Japan, and is currently developing a digital twin of bonsai and scientific research into the beauty of tree form (Bonsai x Science = BONSAIENCE™︎). His hobby is exploring famous Nordic chairs.

・Mr. Tomokazu Iwabuchi
Born in Kitakyushu, Fukuoka Prefecture in 1996. Currently enrolled in a doctoral program at the Urban Design Laboratory of Kyushu University Graduate School. CEO of URBANIX Co., Ltd. From 2018, he studied at Linnaeus University for one year as an exchange student. He participated in MIRAI's Research & Innovation Week 2023. His research themes are the accumulation process of small businesses in fringe areas and the formation and development mechanisms of innovation districts. At URBANIX Co., Ltd., he is involved in research, planning, production and implementation support related to urban redevelopment, regional revitalization and real estate utilization in Japan and abroad, international city collaboration projects connecting overseas cities with regional cities in Japan, and property production for regional revitalization.

・Ms. Ayano Inoshita
Studied at Stockholm University as an exchange student for six months from August 2023 to January 2024. While studying mainly about multicultural society and history, she also participated in the university's language café and interacted with Swedes who are learning Japanese. While studying in Sweden, she became interested in the differences in the promotion of environmentally friendly products and the differences in public awareness between Japan and Sweden, and after returning to Japan, she conducted research on the determinants of purchasing behavior of environmentally friendly products in Japan. She graduated from Kyushu University in March 2025 and is currently in charge of material procurement for an electronics manufacturer.

・Ms. Hiromi Matsuzoe, IKEA Shingu
In 2007, she studied at Växjö University (now Linnaeus University) as a summer exchange student from Ritsumeikan University, learning about environmental policy and social welfare. Fascinated by Swedish culture and values, she joined IKEA Tsuruhama (Osaka Prefecture) as a part-timer while she was a student. She started her career in the sales department and is currently working in human resources at IKEA Fukuoka Shingu.

・Mr. Takeshi Wasaka, Seibu Giken
While studying at the Faculty of Education at Wakayama University, he participated in the JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteers and spent two years in the Republic of Panama in Central America promoting environmental education. After returning to Japan, he got a job at a manufacturer in Osaka, but after getting married internationally he changed jobs and joined Seibu Giken Co., Ltd. After joining the company, he worked with overseas subsidiaries around the world, including Sweden, to carry out promotional activities. He also handles staff visits to Japan from the Swedish subsidiary and holds global conferences including sales agents for the Swedish subsidiary.
