The Embassy has been located in the same place since 1959 after the Swedish government received the property as a gift from a group of Swedish representatives.
The architect of the current Embassy building was Michael Granit who was inspired by the movement of the sun. The building opened in 1991 and accommodates the Embassy, Business Sweden and the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and industry in Japan (SCCJ).
