- How can I apply for a work permit?

The fastest way is to apply online through the Swedish Migration Agency's website Online applications go directly to the Swedish Migration Agency.

 If you are applying as an employee, your employer in Sweden will initiate the application.

- The Swedish Migration Agency has asked me to visit the Consulate for passport control. Do I need an appointment?

If the Swedish Migration Agency requests only passport control, you do not need an appointment. You can visit us during migration section’s visiting hours, with your passport.

- The Swedish Migration Agency has asked me to make
an appointment for an interview. How can I book an appointment?

You can make an appointment after the Swedish Migration Agency requests an interview.

- How can I track the status of my application?

If you submitted your application through the Swedish Migration Agency's website, you can check the status of your application on the Swedish Migration Agency's website.

- My work permit application has been approved. When and how can I receive my work permit card?

When you visit the Consulate General for passport control or an interview, your biometric data (photograph/fingerprint) will be taken, so a card will be automatically ordered as of the date of the positive decision.

If you did not undergo a passport control or an interview but your application was approved, you must visit the Consulate and have your biometric data (photograph/fingerprint) taken. You can visit us during migration section’s visiting hours, with your passport. No appointment is required.

It takes at least 3 weeks for your card to reach the Consulate General. If your work permit will start more than 6 weeks after the decision date: Your card will arrive at the Consulate 2-3 weeks before your work permit start date. You will receive an automatic email once your card has arrived.

Once your card has arrived, you can visit us during migration section’s visiting hours, with your passport. An appointment is not necessary.

If you would like someone else to collect your card on your behalf, you must provide the person with a power of attorney. You can send this power of attorney to us by e-mail or give it to the person collecting it.

- Can you send my work permit card to my address?

 No, residence permit cards cannot be sent to your address.

- My work permit application was rejected. When and how can I receive my decision?

To receive your decision, you can visit us during migration section’s visiting hours, with your passport. No appointment is necessary.
