Temporary Travel Ban and limited possi­bi­li­ties of obtai­ning a visa to Sweden

On 18 March, the Government decided to temporarily stop non-essential travel to Sweden to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and reduce the spread of the virus. The decision took effect on 19 March and will initially apply for 30 days. This is an exceptional measure that will not apply for longer than necessary. Due to the coronavirus and the temporary entry ban to Sweden, the Swedish Migration Agency has decided that the majority of visa applications will be rejected. This applies if you wish to visit Sweden and are a citizen of a country outside the EU.

Booked interviews and travel restriction

To prevent the spread of Covid-19, Turkish authorities restrict the travels between the cities in Turkey since 30th of March. Consulate General is open and booked appointments for residence permit interviews are still valid. But the applicants who will not be able to attend the booked appointments can request to postpone their appointments by replying the e-mail which we sent about the appointment time. The cases of the applicants who don’t show up to their interviews without a notification to Consulate General will be sent to Migration Agency without an interview.

About New Visiting and Phone hours

Due to the Covid-19 outbreak, Visa and Migration Section’s visiting and phone hours has been changed temporarily. The new phone hours are between 14.00 to 15.00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. The new visiting hours are between 09.00 to 10.00 on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Booked appointments for residence permit interviews are still valid but we highly recommend the applicants to check our website frequently.

As of 1st of September 2019 all the migration related matters that were handled by the Embassy in Ankara has been transferred to the Consulate General of Sweden in Istanbul. This means that it is no longer possible to contact the Embassy in Ankara to hand in an application for residence permit or to book a time for an interview.
