For Swedes in Australia

Book or change appointment for passport and national ID card application

To apply for a Swedish passport or national ID card at the Embassy of Sweden in Canberra, you must have a booked appointment. Bookings, changes, and cancellations are made via the Embassy's online booking system.

Please note that the information on this page applies only to applications for a Swedish ordinary passport and national ID card. Information on booking an appointment to visit the Embassy in other matters can be found here: Contact.

Who can book an appointment?

To book an appointment to apply for a Swedish passport or national ID card for yourself or your child, the applicant must:

  • Be a Swedish citizen: Information about Swedish citizenship.
  • Have a Swedish identity number: A personal identity number (personnummer) or a coordination number (samordningsnummer) must have been assigned by the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket). Having only done a name registration is not sufficient.
  • If you are waiting for a coordination number: If you or your child have applied for a Swedish coordination number, an appointment can only be booked after the number has been assigned.

How to book or change an appointment

If you wish to book an appointment to apply for a Swedish passport or national ID card in Australia, or change (reschedule or cancel) an existing booking, this is done through the Embassy's online booking system which can be found below.

  • Embassy online booking system: Book, reschedule, or cancel an appointment
  • Bookings by telephone or email: It is not possible to book, reschedule, or cancel appointments by telephone or email.
  • Enter identity number using twelve digits: The applicant's Swedish personal identity number or coordination number must be entered when making a booking. The identity number must be entered using twelve digits, meaning that the year of birth must be written with four digits (example: YYYYMMDD-NNNN).
  • Appointment type: The only appointment type available in the online booking system is "Passport application". When you attend your appointment at the Embassy, you can choose whether to apply for a passport, a national ID card, or both documents at the same time.

If you no longer need your appointment

If you are unable to attend your appointment, or if you no longer need it, please reschedule or cancel it as soon as possible. This allows the appointment to be made available to someone else.

If you are looking for an earlier appointment

If you would like an earlier appointment than those currently available, we recommend checking the online booking system again at a later date. Cancelled appointments are automatically returned to the system and can be booked by other applicants.

Publication of new appointments

New appointments are released on an ongoing basis. The Embassy is unable to provide advance information about when new appointments will be published or which appointment times will be available.

Appointments are usually made available approximately six months in advance. If you cannot find appointments further ahead than this, it means that appointments for that period have not yet been released. Please check the booking system again at a later date.
