The Embassy of Sweden in Riyadh is looking for an Advisor for the Promotion and Political Section, who will also serve part-time as Translator and Consular Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis. The position is expected to be fixed-term for 12 months.

This is a varied role combining analysis, translation, and practical support across the Embassy’s work. You’ll be part of a collaborative team, contributing to both policy-related work and day-to-day operations.

What you’ll do

You will follow political and socio-economic developments in Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen, contributing analysis and reporting that supports the Embassy’s work. This includes closely monitoring Arab media and online platforms —and identifying and translating content relevant to our priorities.

You will maintain and develop a broad network of contacts with authorities, media representatives, think tanks, and actors in academic and cultural fields. These relationships will support both the Embassy’s analytical work and its ongoing dialogue with external counterparts.

Your work will also involve drafting, translating and refining official correspondence, including diplomatic notes, as well as interpreting between Arabic and English in meetings. You will contribute to analytical reports, briefings and background materials, and support the planning and coordination of visits, meetings and delegation programmes.

In addition, you will assist in consular matters as needed, and support coordination with ministries and other authorities, including administrative processes such as permits. The role also includes providing flexible administrative support within the team, including stepping in for colleagues when required.

What you bring

• Relevant academic background or equivalent experience
• At least 5 years of relevant work experience
• Excellent Arabic and English (spoken and written)
• Strong analytical and writing skills
• Structured and detail-oriented way of working
• Good judgement, discretion and professional integrity
• Strong communication and teamwork skills
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and work under time pressure
• Confidence working with digital tools

Employment conditions

• Full-time (5 days/week)
• Fixed-term contract: 7 months
• Salary based on qualifications and experience
• You must hold a valid Saudi iqama or Ministry of Foreign Affairs iqama
• Security clearance is part of the recruitment process
