Renewable energy

Effects of deforestation, climate change and drought are severe, hitting poor people the hardest.

Earlier this month, the team working with bilateral development cooperation at the Embassy made a joint visit in Southern province.

One way of improving livelihoods can be through renewable, off-grid and solar-powered energy. Access to lights for work and studies, access to tools like water pumps, and access to information and entertainment can change lives for people living far from electricity networks.

This is also a growing business and source of employment, especially for young people, and increasingly for women, as the visit to VITALITE in Choma showcased. VITALITE is a partner to #Sweden through Beyond the Grid Fund, which has been operating for two years. It has until now brought affordable renewable energy to more than 700 000 people, and created 1500 full- and part-time jobs in #Zambia.
