Embassy hours:

Due to COVID-19, the Embassy is implementing a number of actions to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus and to ensure the health and safety of our colleagues and our community. We follow the guidelines and recommendations from local authorities. The plan is to gradually open as the District of Columbia Government moves into the different phases of reopening. Phase Two (out of three) began on June 22.

Therefore, the Embassy is offering limited consular services by appointment only at the moment. Appointments have to be scheduled via one of the below e-mails:

Passport services: ambassaden.washington-pass@gov.se
Visa services: ambassaden.washington-visum@gov.se
All other questions: ambassaden.washington@gov.se

Phone hours are: Monday-Friday 9:00 am - 4:00 pm (closed for lunch 12:00-1:00 pm).

Please note: Beginning Monday, July 27, anyone planning to travel into Washington, DC from a high-risk area, who is not traveling for essential activities will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days. DC Health will publish a list of high-risk areas on coronavirus.dc.gov and update it every two weeks.

The US Department of State has confirmed that they regard travel to obtain passports, visas, and other critical consular services from foreign missions as falling within the definition of “essential travel” that is exempt from the 14-day self-quarantine requirement. However, persons arriving for essential travel are required to 1. Self-monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 before travelling and 2. Limit their activities involving contact with other persons while in Washington D.C.

As of July 22 it is mandatory for all people over 2 years of age to wear a face mask in Washington D.C. when you step outside of your home.
