The Consulate General of Sweden in Houston is looking for a qualified Passport and Consular Officer.
The Consulate General of Sweden in Houston is under establishment and is now recruiting locally employed officers.
The new Consulate General in Houston strengthens Sweden's presence in the southern United States, with Texas as its operational and consular area of responsibility. The main focus is trade, investment and Sweden promotion, with a particular focus on the space sector, innovation and new technologies, energy and life science. The Consulate General will also provide consular support with passport services in the area of operation. The Consulate General is located on Post Oak Boulevard in Houston. The Consulate General has a subordinate honorary consulate in Dallas.
The duties of the passport and consular officer consist of handling consular and passport matters. This includes, among other things, receiving and processing passport applications for ordinary passports and provisional passports, citizenship investigations, name registration for children born abroad and requisition of coordination numbers. It also includes providing consular support to the public, handling cases concerning persons in distress, deprivation of liberty/incarceration, paternity cases, etc, as well as assisting Swedish authorities and providing support to the subordinate honorary consulate in Dallas.
The position also includes manning the reception and switchboard.
The Consulate General is a small mission with limited capacity and will have a flexible team with rotating and partly overlapping tasks, which requires flexibility and creativity. The tasks may also include administrative tasks as needed. Everyone at the Consulate General will be part of the crisis and emergency preparedness organisation.
We are looking for someone who has established experience of consular work, including passports as well as experience in administration. You are service-oriented and have a very good ability to keep order, work independently, prioritize and be a flexible and constructive team player. A very good ability to speak and write Swedish and English is required for this position. Previous experience from an embassy/consulate-general or honorary consulate is a merit.

A full-time employment is envisaged. This is a permanent employment where a probationary period of six months is applied. A prerequisite for employment is Swedish citizenship, as well as U.S. citizenship or permanent residence permit (green card) in the United States.
