The Consulate General of Sweden in Houston is looking for a Financial and Administrative Officer
The new Consulate General in Houston strengthens Sweden's presence in the southern United States, with Texas as its operational and consular area of responsibility. The main focus is trade, investment and Sweden promotion, with a particular focus on the space sector, innovation and new technologies, energy and life science. The Consulate General is also responsible for passport services and consular assistance for Swedes in the area of responsibility. The Consulate General is located on Post Oak Boulevard in Houston and has a subordinate honorary consulate in Dallas.
The tasks of the employee include:
- Operate bookkeeping, process payments and manage the Consulate’s cash box;
- Handle banking matters and bank contacts under the supervision of the Head of Administration;
- Prepare input for budget follow up;
- Handle rents and other property related payments;
- Handle salary administration for locally employed staff;
- Assist with purchases and procurements for the office;
- Assist the administrative section with various tasks;
- The duties also include issues relating to the Consulate General's properties (offices and Consul General’s official residence).
- Other administrative may be relevant and vary based on the needs of the Consulate General.
The Consulate General is a smaller foreign mission and have a flexible team with partly overlapping tasks, which requires flexibility and creativity. Everyone at the Consulate General is part of the crisis and emergency preparedness organization.
We are looking for someone with:
Educational background within finance, accounting or business administration;
Working experience in accounting;
Experience of work where sensitive information has been handled;
Excellent organizational and administrative skills;
Ability to independently learn, adapt to new routines, search information and take initiatives;
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, and ability to develop and maintain good working relationships;
Stress resistant, and able to handle tasks with short deadlines;
Good sense of judgment and responsibility to fulfil duties as well as a high level of personal integrity is essential;
A very good ability to speak and write in English is required for this position. Knowledge of Sweden and the Swedish language would be an advantage.
Experience in working with international organizations or diplomatic missions as a merit.

A full-time employment is envisaged. This is a permanent employment where a probationary period of six months is applied. A prerequisite for employment is U.S. citizenship or permanent residence permit (green card) in the United States. Applicants must already be authorized to live and work in the United States. The Consulate General is unable to sponsor visas, or work permits for this position.
