41st session of the UPR Working Group - Review of Morocco

Recommendations by Sweden delivered by Mr Fredrik Nivaeus, Minister Counselor, Deputy Permanent Representative

President,

Sweden acknowledges that Morocco’s Constitution contains provisions protecting the enjoyment of human rights and recognises that Morocco is a party to the major international conventions on human rights. However, serious concerns remain, not least related to the freedoms of opinion, expression, and assembly.

Sweden would like to make the following recommendations:

  1. Improve implementation of the family law, especially when it comes to preventing the occurrence of child marriage.
  2. Ratify the Second Optional Protocol to the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), in order to abolish the death penalty.

Thank you.
