Sweden aligns itself with the EU.
The situation for human rights and democracy in Nicaragua continues to be of concern. A meaningful national dialogue and full enjoyment of civil and political rights for all are preconditions for a peaceful and democratic solution to the crisis.
We hope the peace agreement with Ethiopia and enhanced relations in the region will improve the human rights situation in Eritrea. Regrettably, so far, there have been no signs of improvement.
We expect Sri Lanka to build on progress made in advancing respect for human rights in recent years and maintain a sustainable and durable reconciliation process.
In Yemen, serious human rights violations continue. Women and girls, as well as children in general, face particular vulnerabilities. We urge all parties to the armed conflict to protect civilians and respect international law, including human rights law.
Sweden welcomes and strongly supports efforts towards increased OHCHR field presence, both through the deployment of human rights advisors and the establishment of new field offices, such as in Sudan, Niger and Haiti. Strong cooperation with the OHCHR at country level is critical for achieving concrete results, and we are therefore also glad to note that cooperation has been established with Venezuela.
