Ms Vice-President,
As the promotion and protection of human rights face mounting challenges worldwide, OHCHR’s essential role is increasingly evident. Democratic backsliding threatens not only the enjoyment of human rights, but also peace, security and sustainable development.
Thus, we must continue to stand strong in our support for human rights and demonstrate our collective commitment to the principles and rights enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and international human rights law.

We wish to express our full support for the leadership of the High Commissioner and the crucial work carried out by the Office to protect and promote human rights – globally and for all. OHCHR is invaluable in providing technical expertise and capacity-building support, thereby assisting States to fulfil their human rights obligations.
Ms Vice-President,
Sweden remains firmly committed to the promotion and protection of human rights as well as to supporting the global human rights system. We are proud to have been the largest donor of voluntary contributions to OHCHR in 2025 and will continue to be a strong and solid partner. We encourage others to contribute to ensuring that OHCHR can fulfil its unique mandate.
