37th session of the UPR Working Group - Review of Georgia

26 Jan 2021

Recommendations by Sweden delivered by H.E. Ms Anna Jardfelt, Ambassador, Permanent Representative.

Madam/Mr. President,

Sweden recognizes the partial implementation of its previous recommendations, notably ratifying the Istanbul Convention. However, human rights concerns and challenges to the rule of law remain.

Sweden makes the following recommendations:

1. Amend the Criminal Code and the Law on Elimination of Domestic Violence, Protection and Support of Victims of Domestic Violence to ensure that the rights of victims are protected without discrimination on any ground, including sex, gender, sexual orientation or gender identity or expression, as well as civil status.

2. Increase the capacity of law enforcement to adequately investigate reported violations of hate crimes across the country by intensifying preventive efforts and collaborating with organizations working on protecting the enjoyment of human rights by LGBTI persons.

3. Ensure that the right to freedom of association, trade union rights and human rights in the work of work, are protected.

Thank you.
