Sweden running for re-election to the ITU Council

Since 2022, Sweden has been a member of the ITU Council. On the margin of this year’s council meeting, Sweden was pleased to present it’s bid for re-election to the term 2027-2030.

The International Telecommunication Union, ITU, plays an important role in an increasingly digitalized world where connectivity, digital tools, and skills are essential. Sweden aims for an ITU that supports efforts to bridge digital divides, and that works in a transparent and effective way. At the presentation, Sweden’s ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Mr Magnus Hellgren, presented Sweden’s vision for the re-election campaign. The Secretary General of ITU, Ms Doreen Bogdan-Martin, spoke about Sweden’s contribution to the ITU over the years and Ms Lina Ljungbro presented the Swedish project “DigitalIdag” (Digital Today). DigitalIdag is a project that strengthens digital skills for all citizens and thus aims do close the digital divide in a very concrete way, and for the second year in a row DigitalIdag is nominated for the WSIS Prize.

The election to ITU is held at the plenipotentiary conference in November.
