Lucia in Geneva – Swedish Light in a Multilateral Setting

This year’s Lucia celebration introduced the festive season with light and grace, bringing together Swedes in multilateral Geneva for a warm and hospital gathering. With candles, Lucia songs, and togetherness, the celebration became a tribute to what unites us, no matter where in the world we work.

On December 11, Sweden’s Ambassador to the UN in Geneva, Magnus Hellgren, welcomed over 200 Swedes and their families to celebrate Lucia together at the residence. Among the guests were Swedes working in UN agencies and international organizations in areas such as human rights, trade, research, humanitarian efforts, global health, and disarmament.

In his welcome speech, Ambassador Hellgren emphasized the Swedish government’s commitment to multilateralism, the rules-based international order, and to supporting and strengthening Swedish presence in international organizations. He also expressed heartfelt thanks to all Swedes who, through their work in international organizations, help promote both Swedish and global values. In a time of challenges, Lucia became a symbol of hope and light.
