The Embassy of Sweden in Kyiv is one of Sweden’s largest missions with 75 employees and a geographical scope that covers the whole of Ukraine. The Swedish government’s Foreign Affairs priority number one is Ukraine. We support Ukraine’s independence and sovereignty and path towards European Union membership. We are now recruiting a Public Diplomacy officer with focus on social media communication, cultural promotion of Sweden and of Sweden’s engagement in Ukraine.

We are looking for a creative person with passion for modern, engaging communication with a twist!

Main Responsibilities

  • Plan, create and update communication on the mission’s social media and Embassy’s Ukrainian and English speaking sites.
  • Draft and edit material for communication, such as text, images, invitations, press releases, videos, etc.
  • Contribute to the development of the mission’s communication strategy and the planning of internal communication training, as necessary
  • Plan and implement promotion campaigns, events and activities, including related receptions
  • Plan and coordinate communications and promotion activities with the mission’s partners in Ukraine and Sweden
  • Contribute to the development of the mission’s communication strategy and the planning of internal communication training, as necessary

Qualifications

  • Education in journalism, PR, marketing, cultural affairs or related field
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and editorial skills both in Ukrainian and English

Advantages

  • Experience in similar roles within for example international organizations, embassies, or non-governmental organizations
  • Knowledge of Swedish language and Swedish society and cultural sector is an advantage

Skills we look for

  • Proficiency in both traditional written press production and digital content
  • Experience in photography/videography and knowledge of digital editing tools
  • Project and event management: strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, including planning and executing cultural program, events and/or public diplomacy initiatives
  • Networking skills: proficient in building and maintaining professional relationships across diverse sectors
  • Time management skills: You should be able to handle multiple tasks and respond swiftly to new events and competing priorities.

We appreciate outgoing and motivated individuals eager to learn and adapt to different cultural environments and changing responsibilities.

In carrying out the duties, the Public Diplomacy Officer is a member of the mission’s communications team, at the Political and Commercial Affairs Department. You will coordinate social media content and promotion projects with other Departments at the Embassy, including Department for Development Cooperation and the Embassy’s Management. The positions require occasional travel outside of Kyiv region.

Terms of employment 

We offer an interesting work atmosphere at a foreign diplomatic mission. The employment is a full-time position with 37,5 working hours per week from Monday to Friday. The successful candidate will be subject to a professional background check and satisfactory security clearance, with a probation period of three (3) calendar months. Staff recruited locally are subject to terms and conditions according to Ukrainian employment law and Swedish MFA guidance for local staff. 
Benefits of the job include 28 vacation days (counted as working days), wellness grant, health insurance, the possibility to be eligible for Swedish pension after 5 years of working for the embassy, and a “13th salary”.
