On 12 October 2025, a new digital Entry/Exit System (EES) will be introduced that applies to anyone travelling to or from Sweden and who is a third-country national.
The purpose of the new system is, among other things, to make travel to the EU more efficient for travellers from third countries. The system registers information about inbound and outbound travel, making it easier to identify travellers with false identities or passports, who do not have the right to enter the EU or Schengen area, or who have stayed in the area for longer than the period permitted. The system also helps to prevent, detect and investigate terrorist offences and other serious crime.
