New rules on Swedish citizenship from 6 June 2026
The Swedish Parliament has adopted new rules on Swedish citizenship, which came into force on 6 June. The changes introduce both new and stricter requirements for those applying for citizenship.
The rules are being introduced without any transitional provisions. This means that the Swedish Migration Agency will assess all cases that have not been decided by 6 June 2026 in accordance with the new rules.
