Temporary Travel Ban and limited possibilities of obtaining a visa to Sweden

On 18 March, the Government decided to temporarily stop non-essential travel to Sweden to mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 outbreak and reduce the spread of the virus. The decision took effect on 19 March and will initially apply for 30 days. This is an exceptional measure that will not apply for longer than necessary. Due to the coronavirus and the temporary entry ban to Sweden, the Swedish Migration Agency has decided that the majority of visa applications will be rejected. This applies if you wish to visit Sweden and are a citizen of a country outside the EU.

Notice to Swedes Abroad

20 Mar 2020

To Swedes who are already abroad: the advice against non-essential travel to all countries should not be seen as a general recommendation to travel home to Sweden. It may, for example, be best not to travel at all for some time to come. In view of the exceptional circumstances, travellers must accept a certain degree of uncertainty; many travellers may be forced to remain where they are until air traffic gets under way again. Remain in close contact with your travel operator or airline.
