The Swedish Migration Agency has, in consultation with the Swedish Ministry for Foreign affairs, decided to regionalize the handling of the migration activities at the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai to the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing.
The decision to regionalize the migration activities at the Consulate in Shanghai doesn’t affect the other activities at the Consulate. The reason for the regionalization is to gather all the migration activities to one central location – Beijing – whose migration section onwards will handle visa applications and conduct migration assignments for all applicants residing in China. The migration activities in Shanghai will successively be transferred over to the embassy in Beijing during Autumn 2026. The regionalization is expected to be completed by the 1st of January 2027. Information about how the changes for the applicants in migration cases will be published continuously. The change is expected to entail limited impact on applicants and the processing of the migration cases are expected to continue as normal.
