Film premiere at Shanghai Majestic Theatre (“In Love with the Tangible World”)

How does architecture shape the way we experience the world? On November 25 at Shanghai’s historic Majestic Theatre, we explored this question through the premiere of In Love with the Tangible World — a documentary inspired by Chinese architect Yung Ho Chang’s reflections during his visit to Sweden.

Produced with support from the Consulate General in Hong Kong and the Swedish Institute, the film offers fresh perspectives on Swedish architecture and its role in building sustainable urban futures.

The evening continued with Return to the Age of Creation, a panel moderated by cultural critic Cao Ning. Architect Yung Ho Chang, historian Xu Jilin, and writer Mao Jian joined the discussion to explore what it means to “return to the essence of making” — from the tactile honesty of materials to the tension between craftsmanship and industrial efficiency — and why these ideas matter for the future of architecture and urban life.

Guests also explored Woodlife Sweden, an exhibition featuring 40 pioneering projects that demonstrate Sweden’s leadership in timber architecture — combining tradition with cutting-edge technology to create climate-smart buildings and resilient cities.

As Consul General Annika Hahn-Englund highlighted: “Building with wood is deeply rooted in Swedish tradition, but today it has evolved into a highly innovative and technically advanced field.”
