Business Climate Survey 2026 for Swedish Companies in Mainland China Launched in Shanghai

On 27 May, the Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai, together with Team Sweden partners — the Embassy of Sweden in Beijing, Business Sweden, and SwedCham China — launched the Business Climate Survey 2026 in Shanghai.

Based on responses from 106 Swedish companies and 10 in-depth interviews, this year’s survey paints a picture of resilience in a complex business environment.

In her opening remarks, Consul General Annika Hahn-Englund noted that the findings reflect “continued resilience in a complex environment,” with both encouraging developments and persistent challenges shaping business sentiment.

Key findings include:

  • The Business Climate Index increased to 3.2/5, up from 2.8 last year
  • 68% of Swedish companies in China report being profitable
  • 38% plan to increase investments in China over the next 12 months
  • Despite current challenges, 83% plan to maintain or expand their presence in China

The results highlight that China remains a strategically important market for Swedish companies, while intensified competition, pricing pressure, and geopolitical uncertainty continue to shape the operating environment.
