As part of the poetry theatre program "Vive Le Printemps" at 1862 Theatre, Swedish poet Athena Farrokhzad is coming to Shanghai to give a poetry reading performance together with Swedish musician Ylva Emel on May 11.


Farrokhzad is an Iranian-born poet and playwright who grew up in Gothenburg. She will bring her award-winning debut collection of poems Vitsvit (White Blight) to Shanghai. The book centers around topics of revolution, war, migration, racism and how they affect the lives of a family. It has received several literary awards and been performed as a play in theatres in Sweden. Vitsvit has been translated into at least 12 other languages, including Chinese.
Farrokhzad is joined by 3 other poets and 9 musicians from China, Sweden and other countries at the 1862 poetry theatre event on May 11.
