The Consulate General of Sweden in Shanghai is recruiting an interim Promotion Officer with a focus on business and trade. This is a full-time temporary assignment for a duration of six months. The position is part of the Consulate’s Promotion Team, led by the Consul for Promotion and Trade, and is focused on activities that aims to promote Sweden, Swedish businesses, and bilateral trade relations with China.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Plan and carry out promotional activities, including seminars, conferences, and events
• Maintain and develop relationships with relevant stakeholders, including businesses, cultural institutions, and government entities
• Prepare background materials, speeches, and presentations
• Accompany Swedish diplomatic staff to meetings, events, and official visits
• Hold a central coordinating role in at least two large projects, including one focused on sustainable urban development.
• Perform additional duties as required, with flexibility and a collaborative approach

Candidate Profile
Applicants should hold a university degree in a relevant field. A minimum of five years of professional experience in a related area is required. Proven experience in managing projects is highly meriting, as the role includes coordination of significant promotion activities and cooperation with multiple stakeholders. The position requires initiative, good judgment, and the ability to work both independently and in a team.

Fluency in English is essential. Knowledge of Mandarin and/or Swedish is a strong advantage, as the role involves communication with both local and Swedish partners. Prior experience from the Swedish private sector or within a foreign diplomatic mission is considered an asset. Familiarity with topics related to innovation, sustainability and green transition is advantageous.

Terms of Employment

• Duration: Six months
• Location: Consulate General of Sweden, Shanghai
• Eligibility: Open to all nationalities; valid work permit required
• Employment for Chinese nationals will be administered via the Shanghai Foreign Agency Service Department’s “Service Bureau”

About the Consulate
The mission of the Consulate General is to represent Sweden, Swedish foreign policy, and promote Swedish interests in Shanghai and the provinces of Anhui, Jiangsu and Zhejiang. 18 people work at the Consulate General, three of which are posted from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and three from the Swedish Migration Agency.

An important task for the Consulate General is to increase knowledge about Sweden, strengthen Sweden’s image among target groups in Shanghai, as well as to promote cooperation and long-term relations between Sweden and eastern China, especially when it comes to trade, culture and education. The Consulate General’s promotion section consists of four employees and the work is led by the Consul for Promotion and Trade.
