Visiting relatives and friends – extra documents

For the time being, it is not possible to apply for a Schengen visa to Sweden either at the Embassy or through VFS Global. Exceptions are made only in urgent and exceptional cases, where an application may be submitted directly at the Embassy following prior approval. The need for an urgent visa must be supported with a medical certificate or other relevant documentation. The Embassy will assess whether a case falls within the scope of emergency or distressing circumstances. No advance assessments or preliminary decisions can be provided.

If you apply for a visa to visit relatives or friends, you need the documents listed below.

You must have:

  • The documents required by all visa applicants. Read more under ‘Required documents’.

  • Written  and signed invitation (240011 swe or 241011 eng) from the host person.

  • Copy of passport or national ID of host person, and copy of residence permit if not an EU citizen.

  • Proof of family ties if applicable.
