Visiting relatives and friends – extra documents

For the time being, it is not possible to apply for a Schengen visa to Sweden either at the Embassy or at VFS Global. Exceptions are only made for urgent situations where the application can be submitted directly at the Embassy after approval from the embassy. The need for an urgent visa shall be substantiated by a medical certificate or other relevant documents. The Embassy staff assesses what falls within the framework of emergency/distressing circumstances. No advance notice can be given.

If you apply for a visa to visit relatives or friends, you need the documents listed below.

You must have:

  • The documents required by all visa applicants. Read more under ‘Required documents’.

  • Copy of passport or national ID of host person, and copy of residence permit if not an EU citizen.

  • Proof of family ties if applicable.
