Required documents Ethiopia

If you apply online, you attach the documents electronically. However, you have to present the originals of the documents when you visit the Embassy. If you apply on a paper form, you have to bring all the documents to the Embassy, together with the completed application form described below.

Document requirements

All documents are to be presented in original with a copy so that a comparison between the original and the copy can be made. Only the copy will then be taken in. If the document is in a language other than Swedish/English, a translation to Swedish/English needs to be submitted also.

 

For married

  • Application for residence permit to settle in Sweden (form number 161011).
  • Family details (form number 239011).
  • Note that the above forms should be fully completed and signed BEFORE arrival at the Embassy.
  • Copy of passport pages that show your identity and the passport’s expiry date. Furthermore a copy of national identity card.
  • A copy of the original marriage certificate. The marriage certificate must be registered with the relevant authorities and should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if issued in Ethiopia. 

 

For unmarried

  • Application for residence permit to settle in Sweden (form number 161011).
  • Family details (form number 239011).
  • Note that the above forms should be fully completed and signed BEFORE arrival at the Embassy.
  • Copy of passport pages that show your identity and the passport’s expiry date. Furthermore a copy of national identity card.
  • Proof of national identity or other documents showing that you are not married.
  • Proof of national registration, a rental contract or proof of sale for your joint residence, or other document that shows you have lived together (applies to persons who have lived in a country other than Sweden).

 

For minors

  • Application for residence permit for a child under the age of 18 to settle in Sweden (form number 239011).
  • Family details (form number 239011).
  • Note that the above form should be fully completed and signed BEFORE arrival at the Embassy.
  • Copy of passport pages that show your identity and the passport’s expiry date. Furthermore a copy of national identity card. 
  • Birth certificate, should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if issued in Ethiopia.
  • If the child is applying without one of the guardians a consent from the guardian not moving to Sweden must be presented.  
  •  If one of the parents are deceased, death certificate must be provided and it should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if issued in Ethiopia. .
  • A court decision if one parent has sole custody. It should be authenticated by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if issued in Ethiopia.
