Many people want to renew their passports right now. We therefore kindly ask you to only apply for a passport if your passport's expiration date is within the coming three months.
When you visit the Embassy, you must be able to present a valid Swedish identity document:
- Valid Swedish passport

If the Swedish ID document has expired, and the applicant is a resident of the Netherlands, Belgium or Germany, the following valid Dutch, Belgian and German ID documents are accepted in combination with the expired Swedish ID document.
Dutch ID documents:
• Valid passport
• Valid national ID card
• Valid driving license
• Valid residence permit card
Belgian ID documents:
• Valid passport
• Valid national ID card
• Valid residence permit card
German ID documents:

Download, print and fill in the form "Verification of Swedish citizenship".
In case of dual citizenship (or more), show a proof of the other citizenship(s), for instance a passport.
If you are a resident and registered in the Netherlands, bring an extract from the population registration (Basisregistratie Personen - BRP), from the Dutch municipality where you are registered. This extract should state your Swedish citizenship. The document must be original and no older than one month. Alternatively, a Dutch residence permit (verblijfsdocument) may be presented.
If you are residing in a country other than Sweden or the Netherlands, a certificate of registration with information on Swedish citizenship must be presented from the country's authority, or a valid residence permit from the country. The certificate may not be older than one month.
