Swedish passports and national ID cards

Make sure you have the correct documents (in original) and that they are completely filled in and printed before making an appointment:

1. If you have a Swedish "personnummer" or "samordningsnummer" (personal identification code), fill out and print the form "Verification of Swedish Citizenship". Note that the application form has to be completely filled out when you arrive at the Embassy. If there is something in the application form that you do not understand, please ask someone for help before coming to your booked appointment. Link to download the form.
   If you do not have any personal identification code, first apply for that via this link (in Swedish). 
2. Bring your current passport. If your current passport has expired you will need to bring also a valid national ID card or driving license. Link to information about valid ID cards here
3. If your passport has been lost/stolen, bring a police report. 
4. Bring a "uittreksel BRP" (a document from your municipality showing your Personal Records data) that shows your Swedish nationality. The document should be less than three months old. Link to information about BRP. 

 How to book an appointment:

1. Go to the online booking calendar. If you do not see any times in the calendar, the time slots are already booked. New times are published every three weeks on Wednesdays before lunch. Make sure to check regularly, as booked slots may become available when cancelled. There is no other way to book an appointment and there are no waiting lists at the Embassy. 
2. When you have reserved a time slot, you will receive a confirmation email. If you need to cancel your appointment, please do this as soon as possible. This will allow for others to book your time slot.

At the Embassy:

1. Make sure to bring the required documents, completely filled in and printed. Link to download the form to proof your Swedish citizenship. Do not forget to bring your old passport or national ID. If you do not present a valid ID, we can't issue any new passport or national ID card. 
2. We will make a biometric photo in our photo station. 
3. The application fee is payable by card as you submit your application. Link to fees 
4. You can choose to pick up your passport/ID-card at another embassy/consulate if you notify us when you are at the Embassy. It is possible to pick up at our consulate in Amsterdam or Groningen. You can also apply for a passport in Sweden and have it sent to the Embassy in The Hague, or to the consulates in Amsterdam or Groningen. If you wish to do so, you will pay an extra fee. Extradition:

After the application, it usually takes two to four weeks before the passport or ID card can be collected from the embassy or consulate. Unfortunately, the embassy has no option to speed up the processing time.

You will receive an email that you can pick up the passport during our opening hours and you don't need to book an appointment. NB! At the time of delivery, the old passport and/or ID card must be brought.

Good to know: 

1. It might be difficult to find a time slot. Be sure to start your passport application on time. There are no other times available than what you will see in the online booking calendarand there is no waiting list.
2. It is often easier to find a time during a visit to Sweden. Check how to via link to Polisen (in Swedish).
3. It is a lot cheaper to apply for a passport in Sweden. You can ask to have it sent to the Netherlands. You pay an extra fee, but that will still be cheaper than applying at the Embassy.
4. The costs are regulated by Swedish law and are the same at all Embassies abroad.
5. If you do not bring all the required documents, we can not proceed with your application. The same documentation is required regardless of whether you have had a Swedish passport previously or not.
6. There are many people applying for passports and ID cards right now. We kindly ask you to cancel your slot in the online booking system if you can't come on your scheduled time. It will then immediately be free to book for someone else.
