Passports in South Africa

New passports and national identity cards as from January 1, 2022.

In January 2022, Swedish passports and national ID cards will receive new security details and a new look.

The application fee is not affected and if you have a valid passport or national ID card you do not need to apply for a new one.

If you need a new passport or national ID card before the end of the year, it is very important that you have all the necessary documents with you when apply for it to be approved.

You need to provide a valid ID/passport and supporting documents must be in original or certified copy

You can apply for your passport in Sweden and collect it at the Embassy in Pretoria or at the Consulate in Cape Town, Gaborone or Windhoek.

If you apply for your passport at the Embassy in Pretoria or in Sweden, and would like to collect the passport at one of our Consulates there is an additional shipping and processing fee, see the heading "Consular & migration application fees".

The passport fee is paid by Visa or MasterCard at the Embassy when you apply.
