efore you can apply for a passport for a child who has not previously held a Swedish passport, the child’s name must be registered with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), and the child must have been assigned a coordination number (samordningsnummer). When an application is submitted abroad, the passport authority—that is, the embassy or consulate general—will request the coordination number from the Swedish Tax Agency.

Once your child’s name has been registered with the Swedish Tax Agency and the child has been assigned a coordination number, you can book an appointment at the Embassy to apply for a passport.
When applying for the passport, the following is required:
Please note that all documents must be original documents. Documents in languages other than Swedish or English must be translated by a certified translator into one of these languages.
Once the Swedish Tax Agency has issued a decision on the coordination number and you have completed the forms “Information for Investigation of Swedish citizenship (for the child) and Guardian Certificte Constent, you can book an appointment via our website - it is not possible to book an appointment by telephone or email.
If, at the time of application, it becomes apparent that the required forms have not been completed or the requested certificates cannot be presented, the embassy will not be able to process the case. In such instances, you may need to book a new appointment when they become available.
If the booking page displays the message “there are currently no available appointments”, this means that no bookable appointments are available. New appointments are released on the 15th every three months, i.e. on 15 February, May, August, and November. If the 15th falls on a weekend or public holiday, appointments are released on the next working day.
Due to staffing changes, available passport appointment slots will be published one month at a time during the spring.
