For Swedes in Israel

Applying for a First Passport for a Child

efore you can apply for a passport for a child who has not previously held a Swedish passport, the child’s name must be registered with the Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket), and the child must have been assigned a coordination number (samordningsnummer). When an application is submitted abroad, the passport authority—that is, the embassy or consulate general—will request the coordination number from the Swedish Tax Agency.

Once your child’s name has been registered with the Swedish Tax Agency and the child has been assigned a coordination number, you can book an appointment at the Embassy to apply for a passport.

When applying for the passport, the following is required:

  • The Swedish Tax Agency’s decision regarding the coordination number.
  • The child must come to the Embassy accompanied by at least one legal guardian.
  • The child’s valid Israeli passport, or alternatively a passport‑size photograph. In such cases, one parent may confirm the child’s identity using a specific form available at the Embassy.
  • A completed form Information for Investigation of Swedish Citizenship.
  • A completed form Guardian Cetificate Consent. Written consent is required from all legal guardians. The consent must be witnessed and must not be more than one month old. If only one legal guardian accompanies the child, the other guardian’s consent must be submitted together with that guardian’s passport (original or certified copy). If the child has only one legal guardian, this must be proven with a certificate or a legally binding court decision.
  • The parents’ valid passports or certified copies. It is important that the passport contains the same signature as on the consent form.
  • A document showing parentage, for example an Israeli birth certificate or a Swedish population registration certificate (personbevis).

Please note that all documents must be original documents. Documents in languages other than Swedish or English must be translated by a certified translator into one of these languages.

Booking an Appointment

Once the Swedish Tax Agency has issued a decision on the coordination number and you have completed the forms “Information for Investigation of Swedish citizenship (for the child) and Guardian Certificte Constent, you can book an appointment via our website - it is not possible to book an appointment by telephone or email.

If, at the time of application, it becomes apparent that the required forms have not been completed or the requested certificates cannot be presented, the embassy will not be able to process the case. In such instances, you may need to book a new appointment when they become available.

If the booking page displays the message “there are currently no available appointments”, this means that no bookable appointments are available. New appointments are released on the 15th every three months, i.e. on 15 February, May, August, and November. If the 15th falls on a weekend or public holiday, appointments are released on the next working day.

Due to staffing changes, available passport appointment slots will be published one month at a time during the spring.
