For Swedish children born abroad, a requisition of a coordination number must be submitted before it is possible to apply for a Swedish passport. Please note that the purpose of ordering coordination numbers at an Embassy may only be to apply for a passport.
Please read the information below carefully before booking an appointment for requisition of a coordination number.
Swedish children that are born outside of Sweden and have not been residing in Sweden must obtain a coordination number “Samordningsnummer” (Personal Identity Number), before a passport can be issued. The coordination number is issued by The Swedish Tax Agency (Skatteverket).
Requisition of a coordination number is free of charge and can only be carried out by an Embassy or a Consulate general. Kindly note that Honorary Consulates cannot accept applications for coordination numbers.
For children born and residing in Ghana, required documents can be handed in to the Embassy of Sweden in Abuja for handling the case. It is the Embassy that requests for the number to be issued. This is done when the parents wish to apply for the first passport for the child. However, you cannot apply for a coordination number and a passport during the same appointment. The passport application can be done after a coordination number has been granted.
