Economic development, trade, business promotion and communication
- Development cooperation: Inclusive economic development and trade, with a special focus on green transition and mobilization of private capital.
- Promotion of trade and Swedish business
- Promotion of the image of Sweden and external communication
The Officer’s responsibilities include, but will not be limited to:
• Identify, assess and manage projects/programs in accordance with procedures provided by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida);
• Identify opportunities, and engage in dialogue, for mobilization of private capital for development purposes
• Engage in monitoring, follow-up of results and policy dialogue with cooperation partners;
• Participate in consultations and coordination with donor groups;
• Participate in cyclical activities led by the Regional Section at the embassy in Addis Ababa, normally quarterly planning and follow-up, semi-annual and annual reporting, as well as ad-hoc reporting as required by HQ;
• Support and promote Swedish companies and business interests in close cooperation with other members of Team Sweden;
• Organise events and other public diplomacy activities promoting the image of Sweden ;
• Contribute to the embassy external communication, including managing the social media accounts of the embassy;
• Establish a network of contacts among relevant actors including government agencies and media.
The tasks to be undertaken in the development cooperation require a certain amount of travel, mainly within West Africa, as well as coordination with colleagues at Sida in Stockholm and at other Swedish Embassies in Africa.
Required qualifications:
• Documented academic degree in Natural Sciences, Engineering, Social Sciences or Economics, minimum at Master’s level;
• Fluency in English and French (both oral and written);
• Extensive experience of working with computer programmes, applications, and systems.
Required work experience:
• Three to five years documented experience of work related to Economic development, Trade, Investments, Energy or Green Growth, preferably in an African continental or regional context; and
• Documented experience of managing donor-funded programmes and projects in a development cooperation context, including legal aspects related to agreements and financial follow-up.
Additional qualifications considered as merits are:
• Proven capacity to work independently, take leadership of processes, manage programmes and budgets, create relevant professional networks and to conduct dialogue and negotiations with partners and colleagues;
• Experience from external communications and promotion work;
• Experience from managing events;
• A team-player with good communication skills;
• A results-oriented approach to work as well as practical experience from Results Based Management (RBM);
• A good understanding of the African continental and sub-regional institutional structure (African Union, Regional Economic Communities (RECs) etc), as well as policies and legal frameworks;
• Experience in risk assessment and anti-corruption;
• Proficiency in Swedish or other additional language skills that are relevant to the position.
- A time-limited contract of one year, with possible extension (Contrat à durée déterminée (CDD) de droit sénégalais) with one + one months trial period
