This event highlights women’s contributions to peace and security and reaffirms commitments under the Women, Peace and Security agenda, as outlined in UN Security Council Resolution 1325 (2000). Despite strong international frameworks, women remain underrepresented in formal peace processes and mediation efforts worldwide. The Nordic countries have long been committed to advancing gender equality, inclusive peacebuilding, and multilateral cooperation. Through both political engagement and operational experience in peacekeeping and mediation, the Nordic region offers valuable perspectives on the role of women in conflict resolution.
Bringing together Nordic practitioners and experts, this panel discussion will explore how women’s leadership in mediation and peace operations contributes to conflict prevention, effective peace processes, and sustainable peace outcomes.

Brynja Huld Oskarsdottir is Director for the Science and Technology Committee and the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.
Kristin Lund is a retired Major General with four decades of military service and extensive experience in UN peace operations.
Regina Jegorova-Askerova is Regional Director for South Caucasus and Eastern Europe at The Kvinna till Kvinna Foundation.
Laura Hendry is Senior Specialist on Mediation at the Finnish Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
