The task of the Consulate General of Sweden in Houston is to strengthen awareness, interest, and trust in Sweden throughout Texas – one of the world’s most dynamic and rapidly growing economies. We work to provide a qualified network and a platform for long-term relationship building between Swedish and American actors across business, academia, and society.
We collaborate with Swedish companies, entrepreneurs, research institutions, and cultural practitioners to promote today’s innovative, sustainable, and competitive Sweden. Through our extensive network in both the United States and Sweden, we actively open doors, create opportunities for dialogue, and contribute industry knowledge and local insights. We support Swedish companies seeking to establish themselves in Texas and work to strengthen the growth of the approximately 90 Swedish firms already operating in the state, together generating around 40,000 jobs.
Texas is the second-largest state in the U.S. and the world’s eighth-largest economy, with 31 million residents and a rapidly expanding tech and innovation sector. Houston – with nearly 2.5 million inhabitants and some 40 foreign consulates – is a global hub for energy, space, emerging technologies, health tech, and life sciences. The region also hosts a strong defense industry and offers excellent conditions for international investment and research collaboration.
The Consulate General also serves as a resource for the approximately 16,000 Swedes living in the state and for American partners seeking to build and deepen relationships with Sweden.
