In 2026, the EU's new entry and migration rules within the EU and Sweden are planned to be introduced later this year. What does this mean for you?
ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorisation System. The EU's digital travel authorisation for people from visa-free third countries. It functions as a pre-check before travelling to the EU. Swedish citizens do not need to apply. Information about ETIAS
For most Swedish citizens this does not mean any major changes, but there are some important things to be aware of, especially if you have dual citizenship.
The Police Authority recommends that you who have Swedish and other citizenship always travel with your Swedish passport when entering and leaving Sweden/EU. Border control is always based on the travel document that is presented, which may affect how you are registered when travelling.
The new systems also mean that the procedures at the EU's external borders are changing, especially for travellers from countries outside the EU.
Would you like to know more about how the rules are applied in Sweden? Contact the Border Police or read more about ETIAS on the Police Authority's website.
