What is the difference between a personal ID number, coordination number and name application?

All people registered in Sweden receive a personal identity number as an identity code. Once you have received a personal identity number, you will keep the same number for life.

A coordination number is an identity code for those who are not or have not been registered in Sweden. A coordination number is designated as active or dormant. You can apply directly in Sweden Samordningsnummer | Skatteverket

Children and adults who have never had a Swedish passport, ID card or been registered in Sweden need to first apply for a coordination number before they can apply for a Swedish passport or national ID card Ansökan om samordningsnummer i USA - Sweden Abroad

If you do not want your child to have a Swedish passport, you can instead submit a name application directly to the Swedish Tax Agency Förnamn och efternamn - Ansökan (SKV 7750) | Skatteverket
