The EU’s internal market creates a borderless area where the free movement of goods, services, capital, and people is ensured in accordance with the EU treaties. Trade barriers between member states should not exist.
However, Swedish companies and individuals often face obstacles to this free movement. Trade barriers are any government measures that hinder or complicate trade, such as incorrect regulation application, red tape, or unnecessary bureaucracy.
Supporting Swedish businesses with advice and assistance on trade barriers is one of the key responsibilities of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
