Announcement of the 2023 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award (7 March)

The 2023 Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award laureate will be announced on March 7 in a live program from Stockholm and at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair. The award amounts to 5 million SEK (approx. 440 000 EUR) making it the largest international children’s and young adult literature award in the world. 251 candidates from 64 countries are nominated.

The announcement will be broadcast live on alma.se/en. Swedish Minister for Culture Parisa Liljestrand will perform an official greeting. The event will be hosted by the poet Athena Farrokhzad.

The Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award was created in 2002 by the Swedish Government to promote every child’s right to great stories. This global award is given annually to a person or organisation for their outstanding contribution to children’s and young adult literature. With a prize of SEK 5 million, it highlights the importance of reading, today and for future generations.
